The Twenty-Seventh Memorial McElroy Shakespeare Celebration!

Attention Friends, Romans, and Ramblers! Right around the corner is the twenty-seventh annual McElroy Memorial Shakespeare Celebration on Monday, April 23rd at 7:30 pm in the Newhart Family Theatre located in the Mundelein Center on Loyola University Chicago’s Lake Shore Campus. This event honors the late Bernard McElroy, a beloved professor of Loyola’s English Department. The McElroy Celebration explores major themes in Shakespearean criticism by combining lecture with stage performance.

This year’s event is titled “Upstart Crowds: Incitement and Control on Shakespeare’s Stage.” We will focus on scenes from Julius Caesar, to be directed by Dr. Mark Lococo, Professor of Fine and Performing Arts and Director of Theatre at Loyola University Chicago. Our guest lecturer, Dr. Sarah Neville, is an assistant professor of English at the Ohio State University, where she also holds an appointment in Theatre.

The McElroy Memorial Shakespeare Celebration is free and open to the public with a reception to follow. We encourage you to bring friends and colleagues to this unique interdisciplinary event, which has several surprises in store!

Are you interested in participating in a surprise at the McElroy event? The role entails your enthusiasm and a little acting, and is great for resume building! There will be a rehearsal on Sunday, April 22nd from 1-3pm in the Newhart Family Theatre and a follow up rehearsal at the same location on Monday, April 23rd from 6pm until the event.
